11 Months

Today Delaney is 11 months old! It is so hard to believe that we will be celebrating her birthday a month from today! I am so excited! We got to spend the afternoon celebrating her boyfriend Parker's birthday. It was a lot of fun, and all these pictures are from the party! The last month has been an especially fun one for Miss D. She can gone crazy with mobility and curiosity. Although she is not walking yet, she is EVERYWHERE! She is one busy little girl. With all this new exercise, she has moved her bedtime up to well before 8p.m. This makes us sad as we get very little time with her after work every night, but she obviously needs her rest!
She is also eating everything in site these days. Her latest favorites are yogurt, kiwi, and bananas. She remains a fruit and veggie lover, but has tried and enjoyed many meats. She has also become quite the little beggar. We can no longer sit down to eat or enjoy a snack without having to share a few bites (or many bites) with her. She drinks water from her sippy cup and an occasional big girl cup quite well. Although, she chokes on water more than anything else. She is on her last can of formula, then we will transition over to milk. She had no troubles moving from breastmilk to formula, so I'm not worried about this transition.
She seems to be hitting a growth spurt right now. According to our scale this evening, she weighs about 23 and about 30.5 inches long. She seems to be so big these days. Our tiny little baby seems to be a distant memory. She is firmly in size 12 month clothes. She is also wearing size 3 diapers . She seems to be always hungry these days, and pretty tired. I think she is growing like a weed right now.
She has developed her love of dancing and swimming even further this month. She dances anytime she hears music. She is always smiling and bouncing about. It's so much fun! She has continued her swimming lessons this month. Each week she does something new or better than the week before. This last Tuesday, she actually swam. Craig let go, and she floated and kicked her feet and propelled herself a couple feet. It was amazing! She's a natural!

Day 6

Today is favorite super hero day. Hmmm...I don't know if I have a favorite super hero, it's not really my thing. However, if I could be a super hero these days I would want to be Mrs. Incredible (Elastigirl). She's like Super Mom! I could really use her ability to stretch herself in all sorts of directions, especially during my wresting diaper change matches with Delaney! It would be so helpful! Also, it would be totally fun to be able to pull of wearing her suit!

One of those mornings....

This morning is one of those stories that will come back to haunt Delaney later in life, so I want to make sure I have it recorded somewhere for reference. Everything was going as a typical morning at the Mencke house goes. Craig had left for work, and the girls and I were getting ourselves ready for the day. We had finished breakfast, and I had Delaney all dressed and ready for the day. She sat and played with her bath toys while I took a quick shower. Just like a normal day, and then all hell broke lose.

I suddenly caught a whiff of that all too familiar scent...poo! Naturally, I scooped D up and headed for the changing table. I had just opened up the nasty diaper, when Delaney decided it would be fun to roll over. The struggle commences...I would turn her back flat over and over. She got increasingly more determined and feisty with every attempt. About the fifth time, she managed to land her sock-covered foot in the poo-filled diaper. Can you say gross? I immediately strip off the socks, and in the meantime discover that not only has her sock been poo-ified, but her adorable hot pink and zebra striped outfit was nasty now too.

She had an orange for dinner last night, which made her poo this weird consistency. I couldn't help myself but to imagine the poo-flinging chimps on Madagascar. It was nasty! She had little pieces of it all over. She wouldn't sit still for anything, so I wiped off as much as I could and put her down on the floor. I turned around and began to clean up the changing table and put her nasty clothes in the hamper. I turned back around to discover she was mooning Izzy! Poor dog didn't know what to do, but of course curiosity and her beagle nose got the best of her!

Of course, it was adorable and funny, but I don't know if I have ever been so frustrated with my beautiful little girl! After a 10 minute wrestling match on her bedroom floor, I got her re-dressed in an equally cute outfit. I got her situated with some of her toys and continued on my morning routine. After I was all ready and dressed, I went to put D's coat on her...

Then, I discovered that she has spit up all over herself. Battle number two commences... She didn't need a diaper change this time, so there was no streaking and no poo flinging; however, it was just as much of a struggle. We wrestled around for a good 5 minutes, and I had her dressed again. (Thank goodness this child with and extensive, adorable wardrobe!) Sometime during one of these two battles she suffered an scratch on her face, it very easily could have came from either one of us...but, I know she didn't have it at breakfast! I hope it was a self-inflicted wound!

We headed out the door and made our way to Holly's! She was wound up and all over the place as soon as we got there. I'm very nervous for the report we'll get from her later this afternoon. I have a feeling little Miss D's ornery side is shining bright today! Here's a picture to brighten your day! Happy Friday!

Day 5

Today I'm supposed to share a picture of someplace I've been. We visited the Riviera Maya, Mexico for our honeymoon, and one of the days we went on an excursion trip to Chichen Itza. It was something else. I'm not typically into that sort of thing, but this was definitely worth the bus ride!

Crazy Weekend

We had a fun-fill crazy weekend! By Sunday night, we were all exhausted! We had a surprise visit from Jess & Nick Friday night. They joined us on our date night to the Chocolate Lover's Fantasy! OMG! It was heaven! We enjoyed some delicious desserts! The chocolate ganache cake was my favorite! Jess & Nick headed for home Saturday afternoon after some quality time with Miss D. We hadn't seen them since Christmas, so it was sooo fun to spend a little time with them. Jess is all baby...she's getting that look that she's smuggling a basketball under her shirt! It's adorable!

We spent the rest of Saturday preparing the food for the big game. Craig made a trip to Sams, and I headed to HyVee after Delaney went to bed. Sunday, we got up and started getting ready. We had a house-full for the game. It was a lot of fun. All but two of our guests came from Omaha, which was so nice since we don't see them all that much! I'm a little nervous for Delaney's birthday party, since we will be doubling the amount of people...it will all work out, I'm sure!

Of course, the biggest news of the weekend is that my team won the Super Bowl! Go Packers! I'm not as boisterous as my dad & brother, but I was totally stoked that they pulled it off. It got a little hairy there in the second half, but it all worked out in the end! Craig has already started the countdown to next season...

Yesterday, we got some very sad news. Our 19-year-old neighbor, Lisa, was found dead Saturday night here in Lincoln. There are a lot of unanswered questions as to what happened. We visited with her dad last night, and our hearts go out to him. Please keep this entire family in your prayers, as they could really use them right now.

Day 4

Today is a day to share with you a habit I wish I didn't have. I don't know what picture to post for this, so I'll just spill it. My most recent annoying habit has been eating more than I should/need. It seems like all I do is eat. I'm constantly hungry. It's ridiculous! My clothes aren't enjoying this habit either. It's no fun! I have always been a person who enjoys eating. I live to eat, not eat to live. Recently though, it has gotten a little out of hand! I'm working on this! I think portion control is the key with me!

Day 3

I'm supposed to post a picture of my childhood, but I think this is better. This is a slideshow Craig and I put together for our wedding. You will see childhood photos of both of us! Enjoy!

Day 2

Today I'm supposed to tell you the meaning behind our blog name. I think it's pretty self-explanatory. I changed it after we got married to something I thought would stick for a while. I use our blog to write about the big events going on with us as well as the every day occurrences. It's nothing special, but it's us! First the "us" was just Craig and me. Then, it was Craig, Izzy, and me. Now with Delaney, it's all four of us! It keeps growing as does our family!

In other news, Craig and I have planned our Valentine's Day outing. We're going to celebrate a little early and go the Chocolate Lover's Fantasy at Embassy Suites Friday night. We went a couple years ago, and it was wonderful. A perfect little outing for us since we both love dessert! Delaney will spend a little quality time with her Uncle Chip and Lauren! I'm looking forward to it!

Day 1

I'm trying a little game going around the blog world. I'm sure I won't hit every day, but I'll do every post. It's 30 days of structured posts. Of course, I'll thrown in my usual random posts as well! The first day's instruction is to post a recent picture of myself along with 15 interesting facts about myself. I'll use the term "interesting" very loosely...
This picture is from a couple weeks ago, but it is the last picture I have of myself. I figured since it is Super Bowl week, Delaney & I can show our Packer Pride!
  1. I married my high school sweetheart.
  2. I got pregnant with Delaney our first month of trying...we are so blessed/lucky!
  3. I bought my uncle's house, which is finally starting to feel like our home instead of theirs.
  4. I'm a perpetual klutz...I'm 27 and I've had 4 broken bones!
  5. I've never had a speeding ticket or been in an accident when I was driving! (knock on wood)
  6. I often wish I would have become a teacher. I think that's job that is a great gig!
  7. I played piano all through my childhood, competed in competitions with it, and even performed at the Jocelyn Art Museum in Omaha. I really miss it!
  8. I was on the Dance Team in high school. I took Dance lessons all through elementary school. I cannot wait for Delaney to be old enough for Dance Class. She loves to dance!
  9. I have a SERIOUS sweet tooth! It's the reason for my too tight jeans!
  10. I love to bake, not cook! I think it would be so fun to have my own bakery...
  11. I also love to plan events/parties! I would love this to be my job...
  12. Contrary to my previous statements, I actually like my job. It's not something I ever thought I would do, and most people have no clue what I do!
  13. As much as I love Delaney, I am so not ready for another one!
  14. I miss the small town life that I grew up in, but I love Lincoln!
  15. I have a lot of friends that happen to be guys, and a small group of girl friends that I don't see all that often!

Dancing Fools

We have been doing a lot of dancing around here lately! Delaney loves music, and she loves to shake her booty! She loves it! She's get to going, and then just laughs. It's so fun! So the evenings these days are spent with some serious tunes cranked and Craig and I making complete fools of ourselves. I was downloading some pictures when Craig's favorite song of late came on, so I had to snap a few pictures! It's the Black Eyed Peas new one...so if you're coming to our Super Bowl party you'll probably get to see this live at halftime!
