Road to Recovery

Well, I think I can safely say that the Mencke house is on the road to recovery. We have all been back to work/day care since Tuesday, and so far so good. So far, I have miraculously remained healthy despite being a human kleenex for Delaney for over a week now! Both Craig and Delaney have lingering sniffles and coughs, but they are doing much better!

I have continued with my 30 Day Shredding this week! I started Level 2 on Monday, and I have felt it all week! My wrist is starting to get a little sore (remember last summer when I had that weird tendinitis "BlackBerry tumb" thing?), so this morning I had to do a few "alternative" moves from Level 1. I hope I can continue my workouts with this improv substitution. I am starting to feel stronger and a little more fit, so I think it's definitely helping! So continuing the effort of full accountability...after a recommendation from a close friend who is looking fabulous these days, and who will remain nameless, I have started Weight Watchers this week! So far, I think it's a perfect fit for me. I don't have to deprive myself of the things I love, but I have to account for every bite or drink of food I take and stay within my limits! My problem all along has been food, and more specifically portion control and self control, so this is a great step in the right directly for me! So far, I'm loving it, and cautiously optimistic for results!

We have a busy Mother's Day weekend planned with hopes of seeing all our mothers! We are very blessed to have our mothers and grandmothers so close that we can celebrate with them! It should be a fun weekend, and a good test for my new diet! Happy Mother's day to my mom, mother-in-law, grandma, and all the other wonderful moms in my life!

Biggest Loser Results

Well, we ended our Biggest Loser competition on July 12th before we left for Okoboji. Overall, I think the challenge was a great success as all four of us lost weight, which was the main objective. I came in fourth place only losing about 7 pounds throughout the 8 week competition. I'm all right with that though as I have lost 43 pounds since the day before Delaney was born. I have surpassed my pre-pregnancy weight and I am closing in on my wedding weight, so I'm feeling pretty good. Now, if I could just get a little motivation and energy to be more active that would help! My new goal is to have the weight listed on my driver's license be true!

Craig came in third place (percentage lost). He lost about 18 pounds! I can really notice the difference in just looking at him. It's amazing how a few different choices have made such a difference for him...smaller portions, diet pop, etc. Lauren came in second. She lost about 10 pounds, which was more than her goal! I think she took the competition the most seriously, and she looks great! Chip ended up beating us all by percentage and poundage. He lost about 20 pounds. His new job at Menards and getting away from dorm food were the keys to his success if you ask me!

So, like I said, we all did well and achieved some success! I hope that we can keep it off!

Biggest Loser-Okoboji Style

A summer's evening conversation on the front porch has led to a little friendly competition in our household. As of today, we are starting a Biggest Loser competition with our Okoboji vacation as the end goal/weigh-in. Craig and I are competing with Chip & Lauren. We have made a wager of $100 to the biggest loser (percent weight loss). We also have a guys vs. girls side bet going.

We were sitting there talking about how we want to lose this much and do this and that. We decided it would be fun and help motivate us to start a Biggest Loser competition. We'll hold each other accountable, and the side bet gives a teammate to cheer on. Motivation is always the hardest part for me, so I think this will help! My post-baby weight loss has plateaued over the last few weeks, so I'm hoping to jump start it again.

My strategy is to pay attention to what I eat and how much I eat. I'm also going to dust off my 30 Day Shred DVD and try to complete at least one 30 day rotation during this competition. We have about 8 weeks between now and Okoboji, so we have enough time to make a difference. I'm also going to try to work in more walks and some Pilate's on the days I don't do 30 Day Shred.

I think Delaney & Izzy will also benefit from this as they will get to go on more walks/runs. They will also get healthier parents! We are weighing-in today, and every Monday until we go to Okoboji! Wish us luck!
