FYI...our home computer is still on the fritz, so we won't have any pictures today! Boo!
In other news, Delaney is a busy as ever these days. She is a full-on walker/runner! She jabbers all the time, and is learning new actual words on a daily basis. She is still on her hunger strike, and chooses only to eat what she wants when she wants it. Every day it's something different! She seems to be looking more and more like a little kid instead of my little baby. We have a 15 month check up in a few weeks, so we will see how much she has been growing with all of this new found mobility! Delaney had her first sleepover at Me-Ma & Papa Bryant's last weekend! She apparently was a very good girl, and they had a ball spoiling her! She has a big of a split personality some days...one minute she's throwing her food and screaming, and then the next she's giving us kisses! It's adorable and exhausting all at the same time. Just this past Tuesday, she blew me a kiss as I left her at Holly's! That was one of those moments that just makes a Mom's heart hurt!
Craig has been busy with household chores lately. He has been cultivating our garden with some serious TLC. We have attempted various vegetable in the previous 2 years we've been in the house without much success, so this year he took a different approach. We had to replant the entire garden already once this year since a late-freeze killed all our little veggies. We have no replanted everything, and so far it seems to be thriving! We have also started the process of transitioning our home over to satin nickel versus polished brass hardware & light fixtures. This will probably take us several months to complete it all in stages, but it has become and we have beautiful new door knobs to prove it! Craig has also nursed the lawn back to health after a miserable summer last year that killed quite a bit of our grass. It looks so nice right now, and many of our flowers are blooming!
I am about ready to do my last day of the 30 Day Shred. It obviously took me a lot longer than 30 days to complete it, but I stuck with it and have got it done! I am also on my 5th week of Weight Watchers. So far, it has gone great! I have lost over 6 pounds, and I feel better. It is totally doable because there is nothing that I can't have I just have to account for it! It's a slow, uphill battle, but so far it's going well! Next week, I will start a different video series to give myself some variety, so we will see what that's like! Other than all of that, I'm just living the dream as a working Mom!

Road to Recovery
Well, I think I can safely say that the Mencke house is on the road to recovery. We have all been back to work/day care since Tuesday, and so far so good. So far, I have miraculously remained healthy despite being a human kleenex for Delaney for over a week now! Both Craig and Delaney have lingering sniffles and coughs, but they are doing much better!
I have continued with my 30 Day Shredding this week! I started Level 2 on Monday, and I have felt it all week! My wrist is starting to get a little sore (remember last summer when I had that weird tendinitis "BlackBerry tumb" thing?), so this morning I had to do a few "alternative" moves from Level 1. I hope I can continue my workouts with this improv substitution. I am starting to feel stronger and a little more fit, so I think it's definitely helping! So continuing the effort of full accountability...after a recommendation from a close friend who is looking fabulous these days, and who will remain nameless, I have started Weight Watchers this week! So far, I think it's a perfect fit for me. I don't have to deprive myself of the things I love, but I have to account for every bite or drink of food I take and stay within my limits! My problem all along has been food, and more specifically portion control and self control, so this is a great step in the right directly for me! So far, I'm loving it, and cautiously optimistic for results!
We have a busy Mother's Day weekend planned with hopes of seeing all our mothers! We are very blessed to have our mothers and grandmothers so close that we can celebrate with them! It should be a fun weekend, and a good test for my new diet! Happy Mother's day to my mom, mother-in-law, grandma, and all the other wonderful moms in my life!

In honor of full accountability
I have taken the first step and started up 30 Day Shred this week after months of procrastinating. I started yesterday, so I have now completed Level 1, days 1 & 2. Let me tell you that judging by how much my body hurts...this is LONG overdue! I hurt everywhere! If it doesn't get better before tomorrow I don't know what I'm going to do. I have been getting up at 6:15 when Craig's alarm goes off, so that I can squeeze in the workout (& hopefully my shower) before our little diva wakes up! This week she has been a sleepy head, sleeping in until at least 8 a.m. every day, so that has greatly helped my cause!
In other efforts to get healthy, I gave up fast food for Lent. With only a few days left, my french fry craving is getting serious; but, other than that I haven't really missed it too much. Obviously, it makes quick lunches difficult, but it's been totally doable. I've been more consistent with taking my lunch to work, which has helped our bank account as well as my waistline. Every little bit helps!
My love affair with food (and sweets) continues... This is definitely the hardest part for me! I'm the type to eat when I'm nervous or stressed unlike those crazy people who waste away into nothing when they are stressed. Why couldn't I have been so lucky!?! I have a serious problem with self-restraint. I try and try, and then boom! It happens, and I cave! I've been trying to do better and resisted many things lately, but this is a constant battle for me. One that I often lose! Starvation of all things "good" (cutting out sweets or carbs) isn't an option for me, moderation is the key! This will be very important with the yummy holiday weekend coming up!
With the hope that Spring is almost finally here, I hope our family walks will become a nightly event! Both of the girls (Izzy & Delaney) absolutely love to go, so it's a nice way to spend some family time & get in a little workout as a bonus! I also hope that with the addition of the swing set to our backyard, we will all be enjoying the backyard and running around out there more often! With Delaney being the little water baby that she is, I have to do something in order to get my fat ass into a swimsuit to take her swimming this summer!
Speaking of Delaney, she's a busy girl these days! She has started taking more and more independent steps over the last week. She has covered some serious ground, and I think it quite close to becoming a full-time walker very soon! She has also found her voice recently! She now babbles all the way to Holly's in the mornings, all the way home in the evenings, all through dinner, etc. She has a lot to say! Little Miss Independent has also declared herself a vegetarian at the tender age of 1. She is refusing to eat almost any meat we put in front of her. It has to be quite disguised to even get a few bites in, and then we're lucky if it's more than one bite! She will sit and scream until we give her a fruit or vegetable. Oh, boy...she's a stubborn little girl! I can already predict, she will be that child that throws herself down in the grocery store in a fit of glory when she doesn't get her way...something to look forward to!

Biggest Loser-Okoboji Style
A summer's evening conversation on the front porch has led to a little friendly competition in our household. As of today, we are starting a Biggest Loser competition with our Okoboji vacation as the end goal/weigh-in. Craig and I are competing with Chip & Lauren. We have made a wager of $100 to the biggest loser (percent weight loss). We also have a guys vs. girls side bet going.
We were sitting there talking about how we want to lose this much and do this and that. We decided it would be fun and help motivate us to start a Biggest Loser competition. We'll hold each other accountable, and the side bet gives a teammate to cheer on. Motivation is always the hardest part for me, so I think this will help! My post-baby weight loss has plateaued over the last few weeks, so I'm hoping to jump start it again.
My strategy is to pay attention to what I eat and how much I eat. I'm also going to dust off my 30 Day Shred DVD and try to complete at least one 30 day rotation during this competition. We have about 8 weeks between now and Okoboji, so we have enough time to make a difference. I'm also going to try to work in more walks and some Pilate's on the days I don't do 30 Day Shred.
I think Delaney & Izzy will also benefit from this as they will get to go on more walks/runs. They will also get healthier parents! We are weighing-in today, and every Monday until we go to Okoboji! Wish us luck!

Ouch!
Yesterday, I started the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD workout. I had seen multiple raves about it online, so I thought for $9 I'd give it a whirl. I need something I can do in a short amount of time and is relatively inexpensive, and this seemed to fit the bill.
Each workout is about 20 minutes long and consists of 3 series of 6 minute ciruits (3 minutes>stength, 2 minutes>cardio, & 1 minute abs). There are 3 different levels/workouts on the DVD. I did the level one yesterday. It was hard!!! I'm sure feeling it today. Every time I move it hurts...in the strangest places! I honestly can't remember being this sore for quite some time. I'm amazed that a 20 minute workout can have this effect on me.
Granted, I am so out of shape and more than likely weigh more than I ever had, so it's no wonder this is hard and hurts. I'm really going to try to do it at least every other day until I get a little less sore, and then try to do it almost every day. I'm trying to keep my goals and expectations realistic, so we'll see.
I also bought a scale this week. I have not had a scale in my house/apartment in over 6 years. I typically try to gauge how I'm doing based on how my clothes fit. My clothes now are getting smaller and smaller all the time, so I thought I might need the numbers on the scale as added motivation. I'm going to keep track of my weight while I'm trying this new process, and we'll see if it makes a difference.
